Montmorency was born in Orléans, France. His father was Henry François Montmorency (1749-1808), born in Orléans and his mother, Elisabeth Jean Gervais (1752-1821) also born in Orléans. After graduating the University of Orléans in 1797 he was for 3 years a notary in Orléans. Then he worked as a co-owner at his friend's newspaper's company: Journal du château from 1800 to 1805.
