Train 081 was a Metro train that derailed in Portland on June 17 2016 colliding with Train 053 killing 14 and injuring 15 more.

The Crash

At 9:26:10 (21:26:10) Eastern Time on June 17 2016 a Southbound Metro train on the Bloor Line of the Portland Metro suddenly derailed, swerved into the Northbound track and smashed into Northbound train 053 at 88 Km per hour. Within the first few minutes 12 911 calls were made and Paramedics, Police, and Fire arrived at Downtown Metro Station. Within minutes, the platform for the Bloor line was used as a triage center as rescue crews took passengers from the wreck. The next day on June 18th 2016 at 10:45 AM, the police concluded that this was not an accident and that the train purposely derailed.

In total 14 died and 15 were injured, the ages of the victims ranged from 16-53 Years. However, the death of Conductor Marco Ocram was found as suspicious. he was thrown against the window of Train 081-B when train 081-A derailed, it was said he tried to stop the train when 081-A derailed and through this, he went head first into the window and broke his neck, this has been a suspicious death however.

Train 053

Northbound Train 053 was set to depart Downtown Metro Station at 9:26 and was just leaving when Train 081 derailed and smashed into the side of the train. 7 people died on this train and 8 were injured

The Track Aligner

Track aligner 335 was investigated after the crash since it was in the ON position when train 081 approached it, however when Train 081 went over it at 88 Km per hour, it was in the OFF position, which caused the train to derail, Police confirmed that it was no system failure, because the aligner had to be moved through a circuit instead of by hand. However all that was found was a dead rat and part of a chocolate bar. After a few days of investigation on June the 19th, it was found that a chocolate bar had been placed next to the aligner and a rat started to eat it which was then electrocuted by the loose wires causing a circuit to be completed opening the aligner to the OFF position

The Perpetrator

Callum Webb of Portland was found guilty for 2 counts of destroying government property, 14 counts of first degree murder and 15 counts of attempted murder. his execution date was set for June 2017.
