As many houses along were nearing completion, Portuguese explorers traversed from the south and settled in an adjacent village to the east (modern-day Hackney and Barking Boroughs). As trade between the coastal village and the inland village had become became frequent (during the coastal rebuild) prior to the Portugese settlement, travel and social relations had also become strong; many Portuguese settlers moved near the coastal town to help with the rebuilding process. he coastal town grew inland, uphill from initial Dutch efforts. Similarly, as relations between both villages thrived, Dutch and Portugese settlers eventually grew into coexistence with each other.
