Manaea is a large northeastern province of The Republic, or Diuetta. It originally started out as a small kingdom centered on trade and culture, but has since grown.
Pre-Diuetta
In ancient times Diuetta existed as a Roman colony. However, in the Northeast of the chain of islands Diuetta was on, the Phoenicians colonized a small island which is now Santa Rico. Once the Phoenician civilization disappeared, the island colony was left to fend for itself. After dealing with economic hardship due to the complete lack of trade and isolation, the island originally struggled. However, as time went on the island developed its own culture and began to call itself Manaea. It was lead by a King that had absolute power over the small island nation. The early economy was based on agriculture and mining, and was entirely domestic. The precious ores of the island were mined and processed into currency. After a certain point, the King ordered the production of currency to stop, ending inflation, but causing slight deflation every year. As a result, Manaea was able to sustain a market economy that allowed for most of the civilization to live in relative comfort. After several centuries, the population boomed. To counteract overpopulation on the small island, the King sent a colonization team to where modern day Port Java is now. With the small nation growing quickly now, new settlements popped up rapidly, such as major ones like Citate Benton and Baia.
Annexation
While the Manaean civilization was booming, Diuetta was dealing with strife after the sudden collapse of the Roman Empire. Eventually, however, Diuetta again began to prosper and grow. Its borders quickly expanded, and first contact with it was made. At first, Manaea and Diuetta had cordial relations, trading with one another and allowing both states' economies to grow. However, as time went on, Diuetta wanted to expand. Seeing as how Manaea was weak, due to the lack of need for an army, Diuetta invaded, occupied, and forcefully annexed Manaea, as well as killing the royal family to crush any resistance. This resulted in extreme civil strife, which the Diuettan military put down harshly. The unnamed capital of Manaea at the time was estimated to have a population of around 20,000, but due to all the political turmoil, it quickly shrunk to about 12,000, from a combination of the brutal methods of Diuettan methods of putting down strife and people fleeing from the nation. Eventually, Manaea became again prosperous, trading with the few settlements about the small continent and regrowing.
Middle Ages and Renaissance
Manaea continued to prosper during the Middle Ages, but as Diuetta continued to annex more and more neighbors, it lost valuable trading partners. As a result, Manaea's economy began to struggle, as it had grown dependent on foreign trade. When the Bubonic Plague struck, it wiped out thousands of people across the province, a fact that the Diuettan government tried to repress at the time. As the Renaissance rolled around, however, things continued to get worse. Technology was prospering in the capital of Diuetta, so many fled to the city. This caused an even further population exodus in Manaea, dropping Port Java's population from around 30,000 to an all-time-low of 2,000. Manaea became a backwater of the empire, and Diuetta did little to help it.
Modern Era
Manaea was mostly nothing of note until very recently. When the government reformed and the first Grand Council of Diuetta was formed, however, the first Grand Consul chose a Manaean to be the Consul of Finance. Cortwade, a farmer at the time, had set forth a plan to the Grand Consul which was approved shortly afterward that called for drastic reconstruction of most of the province. Isla del Santa Rico, which only consisted of a couple hotels and a small town on the northern end of the island, was chosen to be the start of the plan. Most existing structures were demolished and a new, modern city was built atop of it. Many of the rich and famous of Diuetta flocked to the city, due to its temperate year-round climate, beautiful ocean vistas, and fancy apartment buildings. Santa Rico began to prosper, and the effects were showing throughout the nation; Port Java became another tourist town with many tourists visiting to get a glimpse of the lavish life of those living on the island, the towns of Baia and Citate Benton quickly grew, and the province as a whole began to become more and more well known and famous.
In Game (Factual, No Lore)
Manaea consists mostly of wide plains, as well as a large straight of ocean. In the north there is a mountain range and a rainforest, and in the south there are more plains and another mountain range. The province consists of 5 major settlements, Santa Rico, Port Java, Citate Benton, Baia, and an as-of-yet Unnamed Settlement. In the past the infamous players SwiggoTheNub and Trumanator08 built large structures across the province, many of which now litter the otherwise pristine landscape. In addition, in the past MattDB built a settlement in the South-Southeastern area from Santa Rico, which is said to be the remnants of an older, failed version of the present Diuetta. The province is overseen by Cortwade who has complete administrative power over the region. There are plans for provinces to neighbor Manaea in the future after the region is mostly completed. Manaea is also home to a highway system, numbered 1-3. Presently, no highways are complete, however Highways 1 and 2 have portions completed. In conclusion, Manaea is a large swath of very buildable land that is home to a number of settlements, and will soon have neighbors to accompany them.
