A map of Greater Grantville

Grantville is a 1.12 creative city founded by Pokefan2426 on October 1st, 2017 (Exactly one year after he founded the town of Brightonfeld on the older creative map). As of July 2018, it consists of three separate interconnected boroughs: Downtown Grantville, Jena and Sulum. Each is connected by both road and rail. The greater city contains several landmark structures as well as a port, and an agricultural center, a cathedral, many mesoamerican pyramids, and an indoor water park resort. Grantville is located south of Camarion and north of Hong Kong, as well as west of the Elytra warp (all based on the online map compass, not in-game). During May-June 2018, Grantville has partnered with Camarion and other neighboring townships to connect the region through rail. The area around Grantville has seen much development over the past months, with work on unaffiliated towns and shipyards to the city's east and west, respectively.

Grantville's namesake is based off of the 1632 (or Assiti Shards) book series by Eric Flint, where a north American mining town in 2000 is taken back to the middle of the 30 years war in the Holy Roman Empire. However, the city only borrows names from the series, and the PCB city proper is unique and not based on the franchise. Grantville's roads are slightly smaller than some towns, with 2 block lanes. The reason for which is due to the scale of player characters to average car sizes.

As of July 2018, Grantville currently has 2 out of 3 needed warp approval signatures, with the signature board being located in Hans Richter Plaza. Planned buildings include a spaceport, a metro system, an underground shopping mall and a modern regional history museum.

Politics

Grantville's political structure is a representative republic, with a standard legislative, judicial and executive branch. However, one difference is that minor national bills that only affect Grantville are voted on by the public directly, while larger laws on subjects like defense, war, land and trade go to the legislative representatives.

Greater Grantville as of this edit is currently a City-State, unaffiliated with other nations. However, Grantville has had some interaction with the nation of The New Lucite, due to its member states of Camarion and Hong Kong being located in close proximity. Relations between the two political bodies are currently neutral, with some trade by ship and rail.

Climate

Grantville sits in the middle of a large desert biome, which borders a tall mountain range. This placement gives the region a dry, hot climate with cold nights. Winds flow inwards towards the mountains and pool at its base near Downtown Grantville, causing the borough to be slightly more humid and have 1-2 inches higher rainfall than the other boroughs. The area contains large quantities of imported Zoysia grass that is resilient and grows well in sandy soil. Crops grown in the city either come from Sulum or a specific agricultural tower in Downtown, although the Downtown crops are generally more fruitful due to artificially pH enhanced imported soils and the unpredictable nutrient levels in sulum farms. Nevertheless, Grantville is mostly self sufficient with food concerns and even has a thriving sunscreen production industry.

Boroughs

Downtown Grantville

The first borough of the city, includes the Central business district of Greater Grantville and is an important industrial and economic center for the region. Contains Hans Richter Plaza, the three branches of government, a railroad hub, the starship GNS Valerium, the Kek resort and water park, the Brightonfeld Museum, Historic Walled Grantville, the Shadow Library and the Cathedral of St. Benedict. It is centered around Hans Richter Plaza, a roundabout with a statue of a man holding the nation's flag and surrounded by buildings such as the executive, legislative and judicial branches as well as the treasury and Brightonfeld Museum.

Jena Harbor

Jena

A short drive or train ride away from Downtown Grantville, Jena is the port borough of the city, located on the Adolphus River. It includes harbor shipping services and Old Jena Park, dedicated to the original NPC village that was partially buried during a World Edit incident in late 2017. The village is now a memorial park in the center of the borough just a stone's through from the docks. The harbor is owned by Grantville Shipping Industries (GSI) and sees regular cargo traffic through the river. Has direct Railroad connection to the harbor and road access leading to the north of Downtown.

Sulum Skyline with pyramids

Sulum

Considered the cultural center of Grantville, the area has a slightly more rural theme, with wide brick footpaths and many farms. The borough lies over a crevice with a wooden trestle bridge spanning it. The borough is most known for the large amount of mesoamerican-style stone pyramids interspersed throughout it, with many different sizes, shapes and purposes. These include the Templo del equicoatl, the Chaos shrine, the Tomb of the Enlightened General, and the massive Temple of the Ascended Floridian. The area originally had a highway off-ramp connecting it to Downtown, but this was later changed to a larger parking lot and welcome center.

Notable Landmarks

Grantville Metro

Light Metro rail system that currently consists of two stations, with many future extensions and lines planned.

GNS Valerium

Built before the city itself, this dagger-shaped starship is the first Valerium-Class battlecruiser of the Grantville Naval Service and hovers over the city in standby. Contains several smaller starfighters in its hangar and packs considerable firepower for its size. Its design is loosely based off of a venator-class star destroyer.

Cathedral of St. Benedict

A large gothic-style cathedral consisting of prismarine and stone block varieties, as well as being the largest structure in Downtown Grantville. Complete with an organ and miniature model of the building inside. Located behind the Legislative Building.

Temple of the Ascended Floridian

A massive Mesoamerican step pyramid dedicated to the “You know I had to do it to em” meme. Contains two mazes leading to a statue inside. Also features a gift shop.

Templo del equicoatl

A medium sized dual step pyramid located in Sulum. Has two separate staircases on one side and a large statue of a mounted king on the inside, part of which can be viewed from windows in the staircase.

Tomb of the Enlightened General

A smaller gradual step pyramid honoring the life and (nonexistant) resting place General of Erwin E. Rommel, the "Desert Fox". Contains WWII memorabilia inside.

Historic Walled Grantville

An NPC village and naturally generated sandstone pyramid surrounded by sandstone walls. Oldest structures in Downtown Grantville, however the area has been added to over time to increase population.

Kek Resort and Water Park

A large resort complex consisting of an indoor water park, restaurant, and hotel. The exterior of the building is that of the flag of Kekistan a fictional and slightly cringy nation of 4chan. One side of the structure is concrete and another side made completely of glass.

Jena GSI Harbor

A harbor in the Silva River, part of Jena. Includes a cargo ship, rail connection, and crane. Owned by the GSI corporation (Grantville Shipping Industries).

Shadow Library

A library in Downtown Grantville that lies directly beneath the GNS Valerium, thus casting a permanent darkness on the building and requiring constant lighting for patrons.
